ART OF THE DAY: Aron Wiesenfeld

by on Jan.21, 2012, under Aron Wiesenfeld, Art of the Day

Coming off the heels of his wildly successful one man show this past May, Aron Wiesenfeld is not getting in the habit of sleeping often. I’m not sure if his imagery is influenced by his work ethic induced insomnia, or the other way around. 2012 is going to be a major year for Aron, who in addition to debuting three new works in Los Angeles this week, will also contribute one piece to a group show in June, then top it all with off a brand new one man show this fall. Drawing viewers in with an elegantly smooth technique, and a consistently gorgeous color pallet, Aron is a master at keeping us all engaged by building subtly dramatic narratives that swell with each question that they raise. Enjoy Wiesenfeld’s latest exercise in answering questions with more questions.

ART OF THE DAY: Aron Wiesenfeld

by on Nov.01, 2011, under Aron Wiesenfeld, Art of the Day

The day after Halloween is often filled with excited and/or awkward stories of the night before. If you were to gather all of the Arcadia artists around a water cooler and start talking about those kinds of stories, chances are Aron Wiesenfeld would give you the most awkward tale imaginable. In this classic painting from his first New York exhibition in 2009, Wiesenfeld introduces us to a character that obviously has a story, and she’s probably the last person who wants to talk about it. Aron has a gift for paving the way for a proliferation of questions about his narratives that far outweigh the answers. What makes this whole ambiguity thing work for him without becoming impossible to follow are two things — 1- Wiesenfeld goes to great lengths to build a rapport between his characters and his audience that make us care enough to ask questions. 2- The guy handles color so beautifully that we can keep looking at this stuff despite the lack of closure. With an amazing ability to engage his audience personally and aesthetically, he keeps us coming back for more.

ART OF THE DAY: Aron Wiesenfeld

Last night was really a blast. Thanks to everyone who made it out for the Wiesenfeld show– it has been quite a success. Here is one of the epic drawings from the new show. This one is called “Nightingale” and features some of Aron’s finest charcoal work to date– there are few people that can achieve a porcelain skin texture with such a clunky and difficult medium. He really nails it with this drawing in particular. Great work. Enjoy!

Today is the opening day of the new Aron Wiesenfeld show at Arcadia from 4 to 6. Here is easily THE most iconic piece in his show— possibly in his career thus far. The concept, composition, and execution are incredibly simple– but incredibly poignant and haunting nonetheless. Brilliant.

ART OF THE DAY: Aron Wiesenfeld

‎….AND we’re back! This is the centerpiece from the Aron Wiesenfeld show opening tomorrow (if you haven’t caught my mad flurry of posts in the last 15 minutes announcing the show opening tomorrow from 4 to 6….). It’s an insanely dramatic piece, and it’s overwhelming to even look at in person. I’m imagining Aron staring at this thing for the last 6 months— It’s an experience, to say the least. With a piece like this, the guy is clearly earning the buzz he’s been receiving.

To make up for my silence during this crazy week, I have posted some KILLER detail shots of this piece.  It is monstrous.  Enjoy!

Alright– previews for the new Aron Wiesenfeld show have officially begun this morning. I’m going to start showing this stuff off with one of my personal favorites— “Victoria”. I can’t remember the last painting of a girl wearing headgear braces that really caught my eye. In fact, I can’t even remember ever seeing a painting of a girl wearing headgear braces….. EVER. Leave it to Wiesenfeld to break new ground.

The new show opens this Saturday May 14th. Be there!

With a signature visual style, and a brilliantly minimal sense of storytelling, Aron Wiesenfeld is taking figurative realism to the next level. This brand new drawing called “Communion” is just a taste of his new show on the way this May. The narratives in his work may be getting darker, but his future has never looked brighter.

Here is the giant Aron Wiesenfeld painting called “The Well” that debuted in Los Angeles last weekend. It was 64.5″ x 87″ of cryptic narrative, profound attention to detail, and solid draftsmanship.
