ART OF THE DAY: Gary Weisman

Thanks to everyone who made it out to the opening last night. The show was a great success, and it was fantastic to see some new faces along with some familiar friends. The show will be on display for two weeks, so if you missed the opening, you can still come by to check it out in person. The gallery is in a very unique state to accommodate a show of this magnitude. There are 40 sculptures in an overwhelming display. Stop by and see it for yourself.

ART OF THE DAY: Gary Weisman

One major appeal of Gary Weisman’s work is the permanence of it. All of us paying attention to the gallery know the seduction of painting as an object and craft and how it is accompanied by a certain vulnerability against time, and the elements. That sense of fragility is lost in the medium of bronze. There are many paintings in the Met that have been maintained impeccably, but still bare age with cracking, and discoloration. With a well preserved bronze sculpture, it’s much more difficult to perceive how much time has passed in its lifespan. In addition to how rare the medium is these days, it’s easy to truly imagine any of Weisman’s works having been made centuries ago. The quality of the work and its continual relevance to the human condition, mixed with the immutability of its construction, make for work that is truly timeless.

ART OF THE DAY: Gary Weisman

So…. we have this sculpture show immediately on the horizon, and our absence on our blog and Facebook lately has been bugging me. In all honesty (and excitement), there is a lot going on behind the scenes at the gallery right now. My apologies for not filling your day with all of our great artists.
Now, to keep you abreast of what’s actually on the way Saturday October 15— We are hosting our first ever sculpture show. I can hear you now– “Those guys only show painting!” Well, that’s just not totally true. Our focus is contemporary realism with classical influences, and we have two drastically different sculptors who are purveying those concepts with their own media.
Many of you know Gary Weisman’s work. He has been a mainstay at Arcadia for many years with his bold bronze works. One thing that is incredible about Gary’s work, is his complete creative control over every aspect of the process— which is RARE for a bronze sculptor. He works on his own 83 acre foundry and oversees his work from beginning to end. This means, each piece doesn’t leave his foundry grounds without 100% obsessive approval, and you can see it in the work. Here is a piece that will be on display in the show that will transform Arcadia Gallery in a way you’ve never seen before. We hope to see you there. Make sure you RSVP on our little invite found on our Facebook wall.
