For anyone out there that loves thick, chunky paint, Victor Wang is a painter that you should definitely check out.  I’m pretty sure this guy  just applies paint from the tube to the canvas– mixing colors directly on the surface.  What’s really interesting, is his variety of thickness throughout an entire painting.  There are points where you can see directly through to the burnt sienna toned canvas, surrounded by other regions covered with an inch thick layer of paint.   His work makes me imagine the most battle wounded arsenal of painters pants known to mankind.

Today is one of those rainy Soho Sundays where it’s just going to be grey all day. So, just for the sake of seeing some color today, here is a Victor Wang painting. His thick oil application is pretty much tangible sunshine. Soak it in.

Hope the summer is going well for everyone.  We’ve been busy preparing the gallery for the upcoming fall season, however I wanted to break the silence with a new one that just came in from Victor Wang this morning.  It is called “Sunflowers on the Water” and is a bit of a departure for the Missouri based painter.  With this piece, you can see Victor breaking away from his standard orange pallet as well as his very close cropped compositions.  It is a welcome experimentation, and we invite you to come see it for yourself in the gallery.
